
HIPERZAB: Advancing Energy Storage Solutions in Line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
HIPERZAB is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as they foster energy efficiency, promote clean energy storage solutions, and contribute to sustainable industrial innovation. The main goal of the HIPERZAB project is to develop an Electrically Rechargeable Zn-Air Battery (ERZAB) that is ideal for mid-term energy storage (days/weeks), designed to be coupled with renewable energy sources and electrolysers. HIPERZAB represents a paradigm shift in battery technology, with a focus on improving performance, extending battery lifetime, ensuring safety, enhancing sustainability, and reducing costs compared to traditional liquid electrolyte-based Zn-Air Batteries (ZABs). This is achieved through the development of three key innovative components: a 3D porous Zn/biopolymer composite anode, an eco-friendly bilayer gel biopolymer electrolyte, and a CRM-free structured cathode.
